ALREADY-INSTALLED-READYMADES: COVID-19 In the early twentieth century, Marcel Duchamp introduced the world of art to his “readymades,” which were ordinary manufactured objects that the artist selected, modified, titled, signed and placed in the gallery that became art. As an extension to Duchamp’s idea of his “readymades,” I have created a new conceptual artwork entitled "Already-Installed-Readymades: Covid-19” (see artwork pictured here at Cvijeta Zuzoric gallery). This new artwork is also an ordinary manufactured objects that as artist I have selected and titled. But unlike Duchamp, my “already-installed-readymades” are not modified, signed or placed in the gallery by the artist (as they are already installed by other people, usual staff members who place them in the gallery), nevertheless they do become conceptual artworks. Also, multiple artworks can exist at the one time globally in a multitude of gallery spaces. So next time you encounter a roll of paper and disinfectant on any platform in an art gallery space you have in fact stumbled onto one of my installations of my new work entitled, "Already-Installed-Readymades: Covid-19.” Please note that they are participatory artworks, so free feel to interact with them. Moreover, as the art witness, I ask you to take a photo of the artwork in your art gallery space and upload it to social media with the hashtag #airmcovid19 Please also note that they are durational works of art, and it it the artist’s intention that soon there will be less installations globally as the epidemiological situation becomes more contained. Please help to contain this situation by always wearing a mask, practicing social distancing and interacting with the artwork by disinfecting hands regularly. Ok, this is my first graphical score for 2019, it’s a new work entitled “Taps!” It is a work that encourages people from all over the world to conserve water, repair or replace their leaky taps and look after the natural environment. “Taps!” can be performed by one or more performers and can be interpreted by the performer anyway they like … the duration of the work is also dependent on the performer’s interpretation of the score and stamina. Conceptually each performance of the work is linked by an imagined invisible pipeline across the non-contiguous, schizochronic performance outlets where the work is acoustically actualised (or the sonic taps are turned on). If the work is performed multiple times at the same time (by different performers) within earshot of each performance, then the audience is encouraged to imagine the beginning and the ending of each performance as if taps are being turned on and off from the same “water” (or sonic) mains supply. Also, as one performance becomes louder, the audience is encouraged to imagine this tap being opened wider and if a performance of the work becomes quieter then the audience is encouraged to imagine this tap being closed slightly.
